Banderas Bay-Puerto Vallarta

SAYULITA is a village on Mexico’s Pacific coast backed by the Sierra Madre Occidental Mountains. It’s known for beaches with strong surf, like the central Sayulita Beach. To the West, Los Muertos Beach is more sheltered, sandwiched between protective rocks. Galleries in Sayulita sell artworks by Huichol indigenous people. South-west, the Marietas Islands have diverse wildlife such as humpback whales and dolphins.

PUNTA MITA is a fishing village and luxury resort on Mexico’s Pacific coast. It sits on a small peninsula on Banderas Bay. It’s known for upscale homes, golf courses and private beaches. The public El Anclote Beach, backed by restaurants, has gentle surf. Offshore are the biodiverse Marieta Islands, with wildlife such as humpback whales and blue-footed boobies. LA CRUZ DE HUANACAXTLE is a Mexican fishing village situated on the Pacific Ocean’s Bahía de Banderas in the state of Nayarit. It is situated approximately 25 km from Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco. The town was founded in the 1930s by the Chávez family. Cruz de Huanacaxtle The Chávez family still maintains a mango orchard on the outskirts of town. The Blanca family was also one of the original settlers of La Cruz as it is locally known. They, too, remain residents. In 2008, a major renovation of the harbour was completed and now hosts a marina, called Marina Riviera capable of handling vessels of all sizes up to 400 feet in length.

BUCERIAS meaning “place of divers”, is a small beach resort town in Nayarit on a stretch of that country’s Pacific coast known as the Riviera Nayarit, on the Bay of Banderas, between La Cruz de Huanacaxtle and Nuevo Vallarta.  Bucerias is one of the most visited destinations of the Riviera Nayarit, both by domestic and foreign tourists, who seek to have fun and relax in this place of fine sand, colourful hotels and quiet waves where children have fun floating on the seashore in curious inflatable, young people practicing sailing , kayaking or jet-ski, and tourists of all ages enjoying the wonders of the beach while resting in a palapa.

NUEVO VALLARTA is a planned resort on Mexico’s Pacific coast, just north of Puerto Vallarta. It sits on Banderas Bay, and is known for its golf courses, marina and long, sandy Nuevo Vallarta beach. A short distance off the coast, the biodiverse Marieta Islands are home to wildlife, including dolphins, turtles and humpback whales. Northwest is the laid-back village of Sayulita, which is known for surfing.

MARINA VALLARTA just south of the airport and a few miles north of Puerto Vallarta itself, Marina Vallarta is an upscale development that has grown up around the marina, with its cruise ship docks, yacht harbours, boat owners, and boat-related businesses. This is also a serious golf community, home to the Marina Vallarta Golf Club course.  Marina Vallarta draws visitors from Puerto Vallarta with its excellent traditional dining (with the odd tableside mariachi band thrown in for good measure).
